Summary Security sources claim Pakistan mediated Iran–US agreement for regional peace, with diplomatic coordination via PM and Foreign Office, and broader regional support acknowledged.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Security sources have stated that Pakistan played the role of a mediator in the Iran–US agreement, emphasizing that the country prioritizes successful diplomacy over headline-driven narratives.

They said all coordination related to the agreement is being carried out through the Prime Minister and the Foreign Office. A related event is expected to be held in Geneva on the 19th.

According to the sources, Pakistan’s leadership has taken an active interest in promoting peace in the region. They claimed that if Pakistan had not intervened, it would have been difficult to prevent conflict in the Muslim world, adding that global attention is now recognizing these efforts.

The sources also acknowledged diplomatic contributions from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, while highlighting strong fraternal relations between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

On internal matters, they said Pakistan is managing a complex situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, alleging the presence of a “serious agenda” behind recent developments. They added that the state continues to exercise restraint and patience.

Regarding defence matters, the sources stated that a large portion of the defence budget is consumed by salaries and routine expenses, leaving limited resources for procurement and development.

On political issues, they said no meetings have taken place with the founder of PTI, and that any engagement would be through political channels. They also reiterated that those involved in the events of May 9 would be held accountable under the law.
